It's almost the New Year!
One more day of 2007. That's one more day to live down any regrets. Then you have to start over. Got it? It's a whole new year. I plan to start fresh, in more ways than one. By 2009 people will be saying, "What have you been doing this year???" And I'll just have my little resolutions on hand. But in the meantime, we have one more day...

What about Drum Corps?
I have been neglect in not mentioning my favorite subject and that of course is drum and bugle corps. Right now I've just read that the top corps are holding auditions around the country.
As I also mentioned in an earlier blog my husband and I hope to march in The Kilties this coming year-I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I'm long past doing those ballerina jumps that they do today in the color guard!
So, if you've got the talent, check out dci.org and where tryouts are happening. I'll never forget my years traveling with corps. Even though when I was with the Guardsmen they hadn't grown to the class 'A' corps they became in the late '70's I will always believe we had something to do with the the building of a great corps!

On our way to the New Year!
Although Christmas Day has past, is has just begun for some others and we still have quite a few more feasts to celebrate. There's always something going on during the winter solstice in every religion to bring a warm feeling to your heart and keep families together.
So, may your holiday be bright and merry and full of good cheer! Wonderful tidings to you and all you hold dear!

Back to Christmas Cards
I mentioned back on the 17th that I had finished all of my cards except for a very few. Well, I did get those out except when I called my mom for a recipe she informed me that I had forgotten to sign her holiday greeting and did I want it back to recycle for next year! I gave her a huge laugh and told her to enjoy the card since I picked it out for them-it really was a lovely card-and no, I'll buy another for next year.
Today is a good day to stay in as here in the Midwest the winds are blowing hard and it is bitterly cold with snow showers. So, if you can, bundle up or keep active so you can keep warm. Until later. Cheers!

Procrastinating at Christmas
OK, hands up, how many of you out there are still shopping for that last gift or two? I've got seven more to go. One side of the family was easy. They decided not to do anything. But hey, it's Christmas and a simple thing like a little lottery ticket in a card is a fantastic way to get in the spirit! It doesn't cost a lot, didn't take any time and there were a few winners! All in all, everyone had a great time, even if you didn't win, so what. I had the best time, just watching. It was all worth it.
But I have vowed that I will start my shopping earlier next year and I have heard from more than one source that going online is fast and easy. I have bought online before. Therefore I'll take some advice and start early and online. This would be my first New Year's resolution for 2008.
Cheers!

Mars aglow on Christmas Eve
I'm sure many of you have run across the story, somewhere, telling where Mars will be very bright on Christmas Eve. On Comcast.net they have rearranged the Rudolph poem into a more modern version so that this Christmas Santa is giving good ol' Rudolph the night off and his walking papers-for this year only. The last line is the funniest-"Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, out-sourced to astronomy!"
Cheers!

Christmas Cards and Packages
Today is supposed to be one of the busiest days for the United States Post Office. Supposedly, you should have your packages sent by the 17th in order for Christmas delivery. I didn't have any. Now cards are another story. It's a chore I've come to loath. But I believe it's passed down from one generation to the next and your mother makes you feel guilty if they're not out. Luckily this year, I just got most of them out today. I only have a few stranglers to go-including my moms'. She'll probably get hers on the Saturday before Christmas. Now if you have Hanukkah or another holiday at this time of year, the card companies will get you-I've seen them! No matter the occasion. But it's a once a year thing, so enjoy it! Cheers!
P.S. I'll bet they even have a card for Three Kings!

A Blustery Day
While today is a good day to stay in and stay bundled up, it's also a nice time to get out and get some shopping done. In some cases, you might want to take in a movie. In our case, we have to get out and get some groceries which is normal. Now, if you can combine your shopping with just plain online surfing and some buying, you can kill two birds with one stone!
Have a safe weekend! Cheers!

More steroid stuff...
Unfortunately, I don't think all this is hoopla about the steroid use is going to die down for quite a while. And that's sad. We have so many things to be grateful in this country, it's a pity that a few individuals must darken a wonderful sport(s). Now I'm not just talking about the players themselves! I think there might have been a slap on the wrist or face or some heavy fines and suspensions-which there will be, but to put a cloud over all of baseball is just gross. And I'm not touching football with a ten foot pole!
In the meantime, keep getting in shape for summer, but not until after the holidays, and as I was just reminded today:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming,
"WOO HOO, what a ride!"

What would you think?
Today it was announced that several major league baseball players have been accused of taking steroids, among them the great Roger Clemens. Although he has denied this, and I'm sure more will follow, it is a hard thing to understand how players could grow in the world of baseball, or any other sport, for that matter, without the use of some aid. Whether it be steroids or just plain old bodybuilding some sort of workout is required.
The same holds true for today's drum corps. All drum corps do some sort of work out routine, especially the big corps. There is too much risk of them losing their players in mid-season to a sprain, or muscle pull of any sort and guess what-there just aren't that many replacements on the road!
In the meantime, have a great evening and here's to more baseball, football, basketball, soccer, etc, etc, etc.......

Ice, Sleet and Mike Vick
I don't know about some of you, but I have mixed emotions about Michael Vick's sentence-I know a day late, etc-sorry. But I just don't understand how a kind person as Mike Vick who has been described, why he would have done such cruelty. I suppose we might never know, or might not want to.
In the meantime, most of the rest of the country seems to be in one storm or another! So, wherever you are, be it shopping, working or visiting, please make it to your destination safely.
Cheers!

Food runs and prices!
How many of you corps 'kids' remember stopping for a 'food run or pit stop'? We stopped at a Burger King for lunch and it cost over $12.00 for just 2 of us! Now back in the '60's you could get a Whopper, Coke and fries for under a buck. No wonder they want to Supersize everything, you can't eat it all or your fries get cold anyway, and then you end up paying for something you don't even want, can't afford and can't eat!

Be careful out there!
Not much has happened with drum corps in the last couple days since this is the time of the season for all the big corps to be building and getting their ducks in a row! So, wherever you are in the country, please take your time while getting to your destination. We want to see you in the stands this summer!

Drum Corps and stuff.

How many corps people are out there? My husband and I have marched for a total of only 21 years, with Vikings, then Viking-Viscounts, then Nisei Ambassadors and finally with The Guardmen of Schaumburg, but have followed DCI ever since we aged out. We now look forward to marching with the Kiltes of Racine, WI and hope to have a great season!
